Where the Wild Things Are sails off to DS

Few things in modern culture can be considered an anathema but even hoping Spike Jonze manages to pull off his live-action and animatronics version of Maurice Sendak's classic Where the Wild Things Are, does there really have to be tie-in game?

It's coming to DS (also, PS3, X360 and Wii), via publisher Warners and developer WayForward (Shrek Ogres & Dronkeys, Contra 4 and Space Chimps).

While the original book follows the story of Max, a small boy who makes mischief wearing his wolf suit, is sent to bed without his dinner, and who travels for almost a year in his boat to the place where the Wild Things live, the action/platform game seems to chart a different course.

Indeed, Max must join forces with the Wilds Things to help save their island from impending destruction.

So it goes.

At least little nippers who play the game will get to frolic with the Wild Things, playing through each of their mini-games and gaining abilities and power-ups from each character.

However, before you get to do that you'll have to calm each of the seven monsters via some sort of boss battle. Thereafter they will be your loyal companions.

The action will be spread across seven worlds and 18 levels, and there'll even be an alternative rumpus ending, if you manage to collect enough spectre achievements.

Where the Wild Things Are is due to be released in November, while the film is due out 16th October 2009.
