When Vikings Attack! and Lego Lord of the Rings: The Videogame are your free PS Plus Vita games for August

Sony has just confirmed next month's free PS Plus games for Vita. And after a bumper pack in July, you're only getting a couple of free games this time around.

First up, there's the Bronze Award-winning Lego The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game. In this game, you are taken on a journey through Peter Jackson's version of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, albeit in Lego-ified form.

There's the usual mix of charm and humour here, and it's always fun to see your favourite characters squished down and turned into little Lego people.

Upon reviewing the game, we did have a couple of misgivings, though. We stated that "Lego The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game is fundamentally a good game based on a great licence, but it's let down by the squiffy port to Vita".

I think "squiffy" means 'less than perfect' in this context.

Also free next month on PS Plus for Vita is the Gold Award-winning When Vikings Attack! This is a tale of people banding together to fight back marauding hordes of Norsemen by throwing telephone boxes at them.

In this multiplayer chuck-'em-up, you assemble an army of upstanding English men and women and use them to throw increasingly large things at Viking invaders.

At review, we described When Vikings Attack! as "packed full of collectibles, replay value, instantly accessible fun and oozing with charm and character".

So, that's a pretty big recommendation from Pocket Gamer right there.

In August company

These two new PS Plus Vita games will be available to download on July 31st.

On the very same day, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus and Unit 13 will be leaving the service, so you ought to grab them before then if you haven't already.
