War Thunder gets mechs in limited-time April Fool's event starting today
  • War Thunder Mobile is set to host a new 'mech thunder event for April Fools ' Day
  • Until April 15th, you can jump into a new 10v10 mode featuring the walkers
  • Not only that, but there's a variety of interesting new vehicles as rewards!

It's still April Fools over here in the UK, so we're rounding up some of the new events that those of you in the US and beyond are just waking up to. Not least being War Thunder and its introduction of something very new and interesting, in the form of mechs!

Longtime players of the mainline PC version of War Thunder will recognise these so-called 'experimental combat walkers' as the primary feature of one of the previous April Fools events, March to Victory. Available until April 15th, while entirely ahistorical, it's sure to be great fun.

You'll be able to jump into the titular mode, which is a 10v10 setup where classic vehicles meet walkers that can be called in to join the battle. And participating in the event will also net you a variety of rewards, ranging from a real-world experimental craft, the XF5U-1, to the Finnish ship Väinämöinen and...Object 279.

These treads were made for walkin'

Seriously, what is it with War Thunder and their obsession with superheavy tanks that, in reality, wouldn't even be able to move properly, let alone prove a viable force on the battlefield? Alright, maybe it's not as bad as the Maus, but still.

Either way, if you're a dedicated historical purist, you're probably weeping tears of rage right now. But don't fret, because War Thunder will be back to its regularly scheduled armoured warfare soon enough. So maybe it's time to take a walk on the wild side? Or at least what the History Channel airs at midnight.

And if you want to hear any more of my specious reasoning and bizarre opinions, there's only one place to get them all. That's over in the Official Pocket Gamer Podcast! Where Will, Catherine, and I chat all things mobile and adjacent.
