Very Little Nightmares creeps onto Google Play after launching for iOS earlier in the year

Very Little Nightmares, the mobile prequel to Tarsier Studios' Little Nightmares, has finally crept its way onto Google Play after launching for iOS earlier in the year. Unlike its big brother, Very Little Nightmares is more of a puzzle game than a platformer.

It sees you playing as a young girl trapped in a nightmarish mansion called 'The Nest'. With traps galore and monsters skulking the halls, it's imperative that you help the young protagonist escape before it's too late.

The whole game is played from an isometric perspective, with you controlling the girl by tapping on the screen. The levels almost function like Monument Valley stages, albeit with a lot more grabby janitors and cone-headed creatures.

148Apps, our sister site, reviewed the iOS version at launch, finding it to be a disappointing Monument Valley also-ran. Campbell criticised its puzzles for being a mixture of "obtuse, boring, or frustrating" while finding the clunky touchscreen controls to be less than ideal.

While the puzzles and basic exploration might not work for everyone, it must be said that the art style and environmental design are both top-notch. Whether that's enough to justify the £6.99 price tag is another matter entirely, though.

If you're a fan of Little Nightmares and are looking for something to play while you wait for its sequel, you'll find Very Little Nightmares available for download now from both the App Store and Google Play.
