Unison League is an innovative blend of JRPG and real time multiplayer that's out right now on iOS and Android.
Here, you have to work together with other players to perform powerful Unison Attacks that devastate your foes in either PvE or PvP guild battles.
It's all focused on social play, so there are lobbies to chat to players in and an extensive customisation system to help you build your own unique character.
Unison League was recently updated with a bunch of new European languages - German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese to be precise. To learn more about the challenges involved with this as well as what we can expect from Unison League in the West, we reached out to the global business group at Ateam.
What do you think Unison League offers that you can't get from any other title on the App Store?
"Unison League offers a great blend of JRPG gameplay and multiplayer that can be played along with others in real-time. This is not only in the Guild Battles, but in the regular game quests as well.
"You're also able to customise the appearance of your character with items and equipment from the very cool to the very wacky."
What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?
"The team is made up of Japanese developers who have a keen understanding of what works regarding the game's user-interface (UI).
"The problem is, what fits perfectly in Japanese doesn't always work with other languages, and we ran into a few issues squeezing in a few European words.
"There were a lot of checks and discussions during development to avoid this problem, but in the end, quite a bit of adjustment work was required to make everything work in time for release.
"Also, we thought we could quickly implement the chat system used during battles and quests, but in reality it took a bit of elbow grease to complete on time.
"We are very pleased to see players using it often to communicate their strategies with others in real time now though."
Which part of Unison League are you personally the most proud of and why?
"The team is proud of the great success the game has already experienced in Japan and the US. While I cannot share any specific numbers, we are all pleased with its performance.
"However, there is something specific that we're proud of that happened outside of Japan.
"Ateam has great fans of our previous successful titles like Dark Summoner and War of Legions.
"With Unison League, we were able to actively engage and communicate with these fans through the game's official forum, and the fans in return responded with fan art and even music rap videos on YouTube.
"That was a first for Ateam, and the dedication of our fans has blown us away."
Do you have anything planned in terms of future updates for Unison League and, if so, can you give us any details of what these might include?
"Yes, we are already updating the game with new events and equipment quite frequently.
"As for large future updates, we are doing what we can to release collaborations with popular Japanese IPs outside of Japan.
"Some fans were disappointed before that the Japanese version would receive exclusive collaboration content, and we hear them! We will try to get more stuff out to all players."
