With GPS becoming an increasingly standard inclusion in handsets, an inevitable upturn in the frequency of location-based games is evermore in accompaniment.

One of the latest to appear is Tourality, which to all intents and purposes sounds like a cross between a treasure hunt and a race.

Essentially, when you enter a game you're given a series of points to reach in the fastest time possible within the locales of wherever it is you happen to be. The idea is that you race against either your own personal best times or against individuals or teams that are striving to reach the same set of checkpoints.

Four modes offering subtle variations on this basic set-up are included and, depending on what you agree with the people you play with, you can choose your own form of transport.

You can track your own progress, as well as the progress of your opponents via your handset at all times. The visual interface looks bright and playful, too, underlining that Tourality is a game and not a GPS aid.

For a genre that is still so much in its infancy, it's encouraging to see innovative concepts like this cropping up. The best bit is that Tourality is free so if you do decide to give it a try, do let us know how you get on.
