Each week, we send out early codes of selected games to members of our App Army and ask for their feedback. One top pick this week was Adult Swim Games's Tofu Hunter, a pastiche of IAP-ridden hunting games on mobile.

Let's see what our App Army had to say...

chanandler: Tofu Hunter... I think that maybe the App Store is hitting that point where developers are running out of names for their apps.

Not being a fan of tofu in the real world, I'm not sure how much I'm going to enjoy this game... must not let personal food preferences cloud my objective appraisal!

Danny Russell: Oh, if you aren't a fan of tofu then I think Tofu Hunter's the game for you! chanandler: Good point, if the aim of the game is to hammer that tofu into paste then this could be the game I have been waiting for all these years... I'll be pummelling that coagulated soy milk in no time at all! Marko Perunovic: I played this game for 10 minutes, and I must say that I enjoyed it. I never liked this genre before, but as this game is really ridiculous it made me laugh. It's a great parody, and a decent game in and of itself.

Of course, it's loaded with IAPs and you need to wait for your energy to refill. I hate that. In the end, this game reminds me a bit of Goat Simulator, and I would recommend downloading it. Looks great too.

Danny Russell: I enjoyed the first ten minutes too, but after failing one mission a few times I did run into its energy system woes. How intrusive are the rest of you finding the in-game ads? Would you rather wait or are you happy to watch a quick ad to get back into the tofu-smushing action? curtneedsaride: I love tofu when it's done well in curries or even at Chipotle... but man, I've never felt so bad about killing plant byproduct until this game. I think I'd rather raise a pet tofu! George Parsons: This game is utterly bizarre, but oddly enjoyable. I like the way bullet holes appear on the menu screens when you touch it. The in-app purchases are crazy, it's basically the equivalent of £12 to purchase a rocket launcher. No thank you! Abhinav Sarangi: Having played this game till I ran out of lives, I don't think I will play the game again. While it's fun, the animations are good, and the humor is spot on, I don't see an end goal that makes me excited about playing this game in the long run.

I also feel the humour, which is a big part of the game, will start getting boring very soon. Even as a tofu hater, I don't really care about being the best tofu hunter around.

chanandler: Well it is funny, no doubt about that. Pretty standard touch shooter though, with not a huge amount of depth to it. It looks good, the mechanics work fine, and there's a certain delight in watching those little tofu devils turn into bloody corpses. I particularly like the little red puffs of blood when you hit one!

I think that the devs are having a laugh with the IAPs though. They are wanting way too much money for the return that you get. Not something I'll be partaking in, that's for sure.

JuanAntonio Delgado Jr: It's really funny and weird so... yeah, it's enjoyable! Ethan Harold: I love Tofu Hunter! It's not a game that I would play constantly, but it's certainly a pick up and play game. It brought me morbid joy to shoot cute tofu in the face. I also love the deadpan humour - it's hilarious! Great graphics, and runs butter smooth on my iPad. Thumbs up from me. Ryan Tran: So far it's pretty fun! The visuals look very nice in my opinion, and the control scheme is a little different from other hunting games out there, but it actually works out very nicely.

The idea of hunting tofu sounds so ridiculous when you think about it, but it's actually really fun once you play around with it! My only real complaint right now is the price of the in-app purchases. Outrageous amount of money involved.

Other than that though, so far it's a very interesting game. A unique idea that seems to have been well executed by the developers.

Redinorun: I think the game is pretty interesting. The whole concept of "being on the other side" is a really good idea. But although these white blocks are suppose to be tofu, they look like a genetic splicing of mice, bucks, snails, and cubes. A truly interesting species. I'm also pretty sure tofu doesn't bleed!

It's that type of game you just pick up and play (as I believe someone mentioned already). The controls are fine and are easy to use. The only very annoying thing really is the IAP pricing. They're ridiculously high, and the energy runs out way too fast after failing a few missions.

chanandler: I quite like the visual effect when aiming, giving the whole thing a kind of 3D feel. I really don’t like the IAPs though - two types of currency (cash and gold) with the top tier around £30. £29 too much in my humble opinion. Conor Smenner: This app is a funny twist on deer hunting. The controls are a little bit difficult to get to grips with, but the game itself is visually stunning. This app is well worth the picking up if you are in the mood for a funny twist on hunting games. fatecreatr: Amusing in a "one trick pony" kind of way. The controls work well, although I occasionally zoomed in by accident when making quick swiping gestures.

The item progression is either trivial to early gameplay, or balanced to increase the difficulty later, but is not engaging so I will never find out. I spent most of my time on the bounty board and never hit a paywall. High quality for what it is, but not something I would devote serious time into.

Muhammad ala: The concept of the game is simple and elegant. The controls get a bit slippery when you run - not sure if that's a part of the gameplay though. Also, the deep pits are a bit hard to distinguish from the shallow ones. So far I've had one bug where the menu stopped working, and I had to restart the game. Ryan0µ: Very good game, good concept, but I don't like the energy system. Because of it, Tofu Hunter becomes very boring after a short while.

It's fine if you need to kill 10 minutes of your time, but overall it's rather repetitive, which makes it boring. Also the little tofu were so cute, I didn't want to kill them!

Danny Russell: I felt a tad sorry for these little tofu blighters too when I first started playing, but now that I'm stuck in an energy system time lock I want all bean curds to suffer, everywhere.

Fun while it lasted... for 15 minutes that is.

Kainen Ryan: Oh Tofu Hunter, you had me at...

This is a nice little game that I'm hoping won't get boring too fast. Saying that, so far it's crashed once and when it let me back in it threw a huge ad in front of me, which was pretty annoying.

After killing a few more tofu I felt a little better though. Graphically, Tofu Hunter reminds me of Minigore. It plays like most other hunting games, but with a few nice twists thrown in.

Not sure if this would hold up if as a normal deer hunting game without the humour so I doubt it'll hold my attention for too long. Nice touch with the bounty kills though.

rncry: To be honest I was expecting this game to be "meh," but it's actually kind of fun.

Saying that, I've played it for about 10 minutes and I'm already bored. I couldn't complete a single mission without having to watch an ad to get a time extension and that got dull after the 4th or 5th time.

I guess I suck at killing tofu - I'll have to stick to steak.

The Big J: The game is a bit repetitive. I couldn't pass a single mission without spending gold or watching an ad. The bounty kills are a nice touch and the tofu humour is pretty funny, but all in all it's only fun for about 10 mins. Good pick up put down game if you're a bit bored I guess. Sjoerd de Jong: The first thing I noticed about Tofu Hunter was the 17+ age rating. Yeah, it contains blood and violence, but it feels more like a 10+ game.

The tutorial's a bit short and it doesn't explain every aspect of the game. You learn how to shoot and how to purchase things, but they don't explain where to shoot the tofu to kill him fast, what the other creatures are, and they don't say you're not supposed to kill the doe-tofu. It took me a full energy bar to learn that.

To make any real progress in the game you need to purchase gold in the shop and that's not a good thing. The energy bars a really annoying as well. The game is fun for a while but starts to get boring really quick.
