Simple arcade games based on realworld examples have already been massively successful on iPhone: witness the multimillion selling Skee-Ball.

US developer Mellow Militia is playing a similar trick out of that book, but taking the action onto the beach with Tiki Toss 3D.

Like Skee-Ball, it has you performing a very simple move - tossing a ring on a string onto a hook - over and over again, building up high scores by gaining multiplers and hooking your ring repeatedly for extra throws and the like.

Getting into the swing

The game comes with three modes - Best of 10, Session and Arcade - while there are Amateur and Pro difficulty levels for each.

Obviously, Best of 10 gives you 10 throws, Session is endless but your high score only consists of sequential successes, while Arcade gives you 20 throws.

Achievements and high scores are recorded via the OpenFeint social platform, and you can challenge your friends via Facebook and Twitter. Adding to the atmosphere are a bunch of appropriately laid back tunes from various reggae bands.

Tiki Toss 3D is available now, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p through to November 1 when the price will double.

You can see how it plays in the following video.
