Known for its Game Maker software package, and the associated free web portal, UK outfit YoYo Games is now moving into mobile publishing too.

It's already converted a couple of the web games made with Game Maker to iPhone, but its first big title is They Need To Be Fed.

Designed by Jesse Venbrux, who's since gone on to work for Japanese studio Q Entertainment, it won first place in YoYo Games' fifth games competition in March 2010, and now is available on the App Store.

It's a very neat gravity-based action game that has you controlling a little alien fella, who run around planets and other objects, in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction.

Hitting the jump button launches you into space and your movement is affected by the gravitational pull of the planets, which you have to use to avoid obstacles, pick up diamonds, and eventually feed them to the toothy monster to complete each level.

Indeed, both you and the diamonds you collect get eaten by the monster, which adds to the quirky atmosphere that's also reflected in the graphics, bright colours, audio and lovely floaty movement of the alien.

In total, there are 50 levels spread across seven worlds, while replayability is encouraged as you try to complete each level losing a few lives as possible.

They Need To Be Fed is out now for iPhone and iPod touch, priced 99c, €0.79 and 59p.

You can also check out YoYo's other games via its website.
