The Simpsons Arcade fighting its way toward iPhone

America's first dysfunctional family, The Simpsons, made its first video game appearance way back in 1991, when the second series had only just got going on the TV. It was a splendid coin-op beat-'em-up from Konami, and now Homer and his kin are fighting their way onto iPhone.

This isn't a remake of that original Konami game, though. Legally speaking it's a completely different (and exactly the same) Simpsons-based fighting game starring all your favourite characters, doughnut scoffing, and bonus rounds where you inflate big head-shaped balloons.

Your quest in The Simpsons Arcade is to help Homer fight his way through the hordes of Springfield's most sinister as he hunts for the perfect doughnut - a delicious, sprinkle-topped confection that holds a deadly secret that Mr Burns really, really wants.

There are 25 beat-'em-up levels across six environments, including Krusty Land, Channel 6, and Downtown Springfield, with bawdy battles against the likes of Krusty, Bumblebee Man, Chief Wiggum, Squeaky Voiced Teen and The Rich Texan.

The Simpsons Arcade is already out on mobile, and the iPhone version is expected to belly flop onto the App Store sometime this month.

Mmmmm, App Store...

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
