Long-awaited pixel-art platformer The Other Brothers is finally live in the New Zealand App Store, so will be available in the UK and US at around midnight tonight.

The game stars mustachioed auto repair siblings Joe and Jim on a madcap quest to save Tavy - a ginger-haired damsel in distress - from mobsters.

But don't confuse this with those other games about tradesman brothers. This is not a traditional platformer with linear side-scrolling stages.

Instead, you get huge open levels to explore, which spill out in all directions. In some of these intricately designed The Other Brothers stages, simply finding the exit is as tricky as reaching it.

We've been hands-on with the game this week. The retro graphics are fantastic, while the levels are fun and imaginative. The game's wonky controls are a let-down, though, and will take some getting used to.

We'll go into more depth in our full review of the game, mind, which will be up on the site soon.

The Other Brothers has been a long time coming, and its maker has faced legal struggles and overcome crowdfunding stumbles to get here. But the game will finally bounce onto the App Store at about midnight in your territory for 69p / 99c.

Android, PC, and Mac versions of The Other Brothers will be available soon, by the way. Plus, you'll be able to get the game on Ouya later this year.
