If you've been playing through the main quest in The Elder Scrolls: Blades, then you probably already know how frustrating the trolls can be.

Big, hairy, ugly, and full of problems, the trolls are both intimidating and frustrating, and with this guide you'll be able to hack through them like all the rest.

If you spend the necessary time enhancing your gear and preparing yourself for battle, the trolls will soon become just more fodder to be bashed away at with your hammer. Read on for the essential low down on how to deal with trolls…

The troll problem

Trolls are some of the strongest enemies in The Elder Scrolls: Blades. Not only are they resistant to many types of physical damage, they often also come with a health regeneration buff, leaving you to swing while their health never goes down.

When you first encounter the trolls, they will change the way you play the game. It goes from a senseless game of smashing through enemies and collecting materials, to serious business.

Trolls, from then on, will regularly appear in stages, in increasingly stronger forms. If you want to progress in this game, you will need to know how to take them on.

The trolls have specific strengths and weaknesses, and if you tune your character with the right gear and skills, they can become pushovers. But you really need to put the effort in.

The first lesson you'll need to learn is that trolls are weak against Bashing and Fire damage. This of course means Fire skills, Hammers, Maces or Fire enchantments - or all of the above - are of course going to give you the edge in battle.

Trolls are also resistant to Slashing, Frost, and Shock, which means you can't just pull out your spells and gear freely - the trolls can easily power through many attacks.

Make changes to your gear and skills, like including more Fire enchantments and skills, before going into battle against trolls.

1
Magicka movement

Since we've already mentioned that trolls are weak to fire, that of course means getting fire Magicka skills is a massive help.

The Fireball skill is of course a good place to start, but all of the fire skills available in the Magicka skill tree is important, and the fire buff in the Perk tree is important too.

These will eat through the health of trolls, as long as you can land the attack.

2
Healthy workplace

Health will be the most important factor when going up against trolls. With low health, they will take you down.

You can of course eat food you find in missions, but more important than that is using skills which keep your health high. There are Magicka and Stamina skills which can boost your health or recover your health, and they're both important.

Getting past one troll without worrying about your health is possible, but if you need to fight two or three, you best be prepared.

Getting specific

We've told you what weaknesses and resistances the trolls have, and now it's time to tweak your gear until it's perfect.

You might need to upgrade the Smithy and Enchanter's Tower, but once you have, you'll be able to craft powerful weapons and armour which will enhance your Magicka, Stamina, and offer Fire buffs.

Using these, in addition to powerful gear to start with, you'll be able to slowly but surely tear through trolls that you come across.
