You know what's even rarer in mobile gaming than a top-notch Windows Phone exclusive? A top-notch Windows Phone exclusive that then makes its way to iPhone.

Yes, we know that sounds like a contradiction in terms. Yet, how else are we to explain the surfacing of Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin on the App Store?

This polished Press Play title hit the Windows Phone Marketplace last year under the name Tentacles. Now, it's gained a few words to distinguish it from other tentacular titles and swum across to iPhone and iPad.

Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin is only the second Microsoft-published game to appear on the App Store - arguably, it's the first, depending on whether you count Kinectimals as a game or an app.

In Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin, you take control of a microscopic three-limbed sentient blob, which works its way through the blood vessels and arteries of its dolphin-headed creator.

Oh, the game's definitely a little warped, but in a gleefully silly kind of way.

Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin is one of the better showcases for touchscreen input in games, as you literally place one tentacle after another on the level scenery to move onwards and avoid danger. You must also tap on enemies to get rid of them.

We thought the original Windows Phone version was decent, if a little repetitive, but it's worth noting that this iOS edition is going for significantly less than the original did at launch. At 69p / 99c, then, it's well worth a look.

On a related note, we should point out that the RRP of the original Windows Phone version [download] is now just 79p, and that it contains the Dog Eat Dog expansion pack.
