Space Station: Frontier HD now defending iPad

Despite the huge potential of the iPad, at the moment it's often restricted to playing host to bigger, fancier versions of iPhone games.

A pity, perhaps, that more originality hasn’t been instantly forthcoming. But the novelty of playing these games in HD on a large screen is refreshing enough to pique our interest for now.

Origin8 has given its tower defence title, Space Station: Frontier, an HD reboot (read: 'optimised port') for the iPad.

So, the list of features in the press release isn’t mind blowing, but attractive nonetheless:

• HD graphics, natch
• redesigned interface
• the addition of a minimap
• and redrawn backdrops

Space Station: Frontier, however, added some interesting resource management and RTS elements to the standard defence template, so although this is a simple up-scaling, it’s still one of the more interesting in its genre.

It’s one small step for tower defence, one eyebrow raising leap for App price.

Space Station: Frontier HD is available, now, from the AppStore, priced at £2.99 ($4.99).
