Mad Monkey releases its first iPhone 3GS-only game, Sketch Hop
Only for the privileged few
A few weeks ago we ran a story with the disquieting headline, “Obsolescence alert: Mad Monkey Studio to cater exclusively for the iPhone 3GS.” It was alarmist, sure, but we were alluding to a real issue: over time, owners of Apple gaming devices other than the iPhone 3GS will have access to a diminishing pool of games as developers choose to take advantage of the extra grunt.
Only this morning we learned that publisher Chillingo is to release a 3GS-only version of Toki Tori, and now the 3GS-centric Mad Monkey Studio has released its first game.
Sketch Hop follows the style of a tech demo (below) Mad Monkey released a few weeks ago to showcase the developer’s technical prowess. It’s a simple platformer with a sketched appearance and scratchy animation in which you have to take a ball along a row of logs.
I’d tell you what it’s like, but unfortunately I don’t own a 3GS so you’ll have to content yourself with the video below for now. Unless you have a 3GS yourself, that is, in which case you can download it for free.
