The full version of genie-themed action platformer Shantae: Risky's Revenge is free for a limited time for iOS

As if by magic, the Silver Award-winning DSiWare port Shantae: Risky's Revenge can now be had for free on the App Store [download].

To clarify - yes, Risky's Revenge has always been a free app. But that's just the demo. You normally have to purchase the full game through an in-app purchase, which cost £1.49 / $1.99.

Now, you can unlock the full genie-filled, belly dancing action platformer for nothing. Plus, there's a seperate version of the game that has the whole thing for free and unlocked from the start - no IAP necessary.

Do note that this update has reportedly caused some people to have a few problems running the game on their device. We've had no problems ourselves, so it's not affecting everyone.

Developer WayForward notes that "a properly functioning version will display the WayForward logo, followed by a WELCOME screen that announces the new costume." So look out for that.

An update for everyone else is on the way.

The update also adds a "saucy new costume" (apparently) for Shantae, which increases her magical ability but decreases the protection of her armour, understandably.

In our review of Shantae's Risky Revenge, we said that it's "a terrific port for this substantial side-scroller that comes highly recommended if you haven't played the DS original".
