After releasing the prequel only two weeks ago, SNK and Hamster have graced us with the classic 2D action game Sengoku 3 courtesy of their ACA NeoGeo re-release lineup. Much like the previous instalment, this is a time-travel-themed side-scrolling action game that features a decent variety of weaponry and characters, each forcing you to play differently all while adapting to the various enemies you’ll come across in each time period.

The Sengoku series is adjacent to the other genre contemporaries of this period of gaming, things like Contra or the Double Dragon series, though puts a unique spin on it with all the time travel shenanigans. This particular one sees you embarking on a quest to purge evil souls across time and space, utilising that large collection of weapons previously mentioned alongside your innate ninja abilities.

It makes for a pretty fun little romp if you’re a fan of this sort of thing, and is especially nostalgic if you played games back in the early-to-late 90s. Obviously, it’s a bit dated and clunky at points, but that’s all part of the charm when it comes to these ACA NeoGeo games, as they’re meant to transport you back to the days of yore without all the bells and whistles that releases of the modern era have.

That’s not to say that this will be a tough experience to get through, however, as these re-releases of old games through the ACA front are all updated with modern features and functionalities such as save states, controller support, and enhanced performance, all wrapped up with touch-screen controls that almost always operate quite well.

Overall, if you’re a fan of 2D beat-em-ups or classic games in general, Sengoku 3 is worth your time. Give it a go for only $3.99 at either of the links below!
