Savant: Ascent REMIX, a remaster of the 2D twinstick arcade shooter, is releasing for iOS and Android later this year

A newly remastered version of a popular breakneck speed arcade shooter is set to make its way to mobile later this year. Savant: Ascent REMIX is coming to basically every platform under the sun in 2023 with a PC launch scheduled for September 15th, and then a release set for console, iOS and Android at a later date.

Savant is a really difficult game to describe, but once you watch the trailer you’ll likely get a pretty solid grasp of what the game is expecting of you. It’s an arcade twin-stick shooter experience first and foremost, utilizing a stage-based format for you to tackle. Each stage sees you riding two different platforms to jump between, all the while dodging projectiles and enemies flying at you from every direction.

Your goal from there is pretty simple; climb each stage while you destroy the various enemies and collect power-ups that will empower all of your attacks. As you do damage and demolish foes, you’ll build up a super meter of sorts that will then allow you to blast a huge wave of magic, doing massive damage and basically one-shotting everything on-screen.

That’s the gameplay loop of Savant, but if you ask me, where this one truly shines is in its art style. It’s got a sort of gothic, dark and mysterious thing going on, but that pulse-pounding rock soundtrack blasting in the background makes it almost Castlevania-esque at the same time. It’s a really interesting vibe and one that I dig in a big way.

With the release window so vague for mobile devices, it’s tough to say when exactly we might see Savant make its way to our pockets, but hopefully it’ll be the sooner part of the last half of this year as opposed to, say, December. For now, we’ll just have to wait and stay tuned for any updates.
