It was a glorious day for all you gnarly old retro gamers out there when Cyan Worlds resurrected the most popular PC game of all time (until The Sims came along), Myst, for iPhone. It was a CD-sized download, but it was worth it.

Well, over on the official Myst Online forums, a tasty bit of info has been disseminated regarding the sequels Riven and Myst Online: Uru Live also getting iPhone adaptations.

"I'm hoping that Riven will be available by early summer at the latest. Uru Live, maybe within a month," the alleged official Cyan Worlds quote reads. "Watch the Myst online website for updates. the rest of the Myst series get complicated fast due to technology issues and rights licensing. Not sure those will make it."

Riven picked up immediately where Myst left off, and was much like its elder brother featuring a pre-rendered world with a point-and-click style of gameplay guiding you through it.

Myst Online: Uru Live was quite different, however, positioning itself as a massively multiplayer online adventure game. It never quite managed to get its feet fully off the ground on PC, but a connected iPhone would be likely to get plenty of attention and give the game the support it always wanted.

It's not an official announcement so much as a re-posting of an email received by one of the forum's members, so we'll remain perched on the fence for the time being. But we'll be fidgeting excitedly as we perch there.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
