A mobile game adaptation of Real Steel has been released on iOS handsets.

Based on the forthcoming Hollywood blockbuster of the same name, Real Steel depicts a near future America in which boxers have been replaced by great big robots. The game lets you take control of one of these great big robots and battle other (similarly proportioned) robots to the death.

Promising no-holds-barred robot fighting, Real Steel offers a Tournament mode in which you fight increasingly challenging robo-adversaries, working your way up to challenge Midas – a great big gold robot. If you’re having trouble, you can hone your skills in the game’s Free Sparring mode.

There are eight automated pugilists to unlock, and a pleasing sense of weight to the fights themselves, which makes sense given that the game is about 2,000lb metal people punching each other.

Real Steel is available now for iOS devices, priced at £2.99/$4.99. An Android version has been announced, and we’ll update you with pricing and a release date as soon as we have it.
