  • Qwizy is an upcoming gameification of the classic quiz format
  • Duke it out with friends or strangers on a variety of topics
  • Educational content can be accessed offline and online, with a curated stream for each person

When I was in school, one of the most exciting moments when smartphones came into vogue was when we started making use of Kahoot in class. While there were, of course, plenty of joke answers, these quizzes made learning quite engaging. But that wasn't the intended use, so it's little surprise someone has finally taken it a step further with Qwizy.

The passion project of developer Ignat Boyarinov, a 21-year-old student from Switzerland, Qwizy is intended to be a mixture of entertainment and education. You create and curate your own quizzes, be that competing in them against friends or strangers.

This is probably all sounding pretty familiar, but the difference comes in the gameification elements. Essentially, the addition of mechanics such as true PvP contests, leaderboards, and a focus on educational content that can be accessed both online and offline, and will even be curated for individual players.

Currently, Qwizy is slated solely for an iOS release in late May, but hopefully, if it turns out to meet our expectations, we'll see it get a wider Android release. It's undeniable that puzzlers, casual and hardcore alike, are immensely popular with mobile players. And I think that trying to create something which focuses on actual education rather than just entertainment is quite a noble aim.

Meanwhile, for those of you who need a bit of competition to spur them on, the fact that you're competing against real players rather than filling daily quotas is sure to be satisfaction enough.

But if you're dead-set on trying something a little less educational, we can't stop you. But we can direct you to our curated list of the top 25 best puzzle games on iOS and Android so that you're at least playing one of the best that there is!
