If you're over the age of 13 and don't have a young person in your immediate family, you probably won't be too familiar with the insanely popular MMORPG Club Penguin (150 million registered users and counting).

Given its success on PC, then, it's no major surprise to see the maker of this pre-teen online sensation branch out onto smartphone by launching its first Club Penguin tie-in game on mobile tomorrow.

Puffle Launch is the name – puffles being small fluffy creatures that Club Penguin users can purchase as pets – and taking on a mischievous, snack-stealing crab by firing puffles out of cannons is the game.

"Kids are going mobile and have been asking for Club Penguin to go there with them. Disney pioneered virtual worlds and social gaming for kids, and now we want to enable kids to connect with their friends and our worlds on the go," Lane Merrifield, Club Penguin co-founder and executive vice president of Disney Online Studios, said.

"This is only the beginning for Club Penguin on mobile and we have some really exciting plans that will unfold over the next year."

Incentivisation

Club Penguin account holders have an added incentive to pick up the app, as currency earned in the game can be transferred to a clubpenguin.com account and used to purchase items and customisation options on the site.

With 24 levels on offer, three modes to tackle, and integration with the Club Penguin site proper, Puffle Launch will likely prove pretty attractive to iPhone-owning youngsters.

Puffle Launch will be available tomorrow for the iPhone and iPad, priced at 69p / 99c.
