Pokemon Platinum has managed to outsell every game in the Top 10 Japanese multi-format software sales charts combined this week – quite an achievement for a franchise that feels like it's been around longer than Bruce Forsyth.

According to sales figures from Media Create, the game managed 963,000 copies in the week ending September 14th. Seeing as it only went on sale on September 13th, that's the sales for just two days. That's a lot of frenzied Pokemon buying.

It's all the more impressive when you consider Pokemon Platinum is essentially a rehash of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, just with some new poke-chums and an expanded story.

The second highest selling game of the same week was Konami's Quiz Magic Academy on DS, which sold a feeble-in-comparison 119,000 copies. If they'd only called it Pokemon Magic Academy, it probably would have shifted at least half a million more.

There's currently no scheduled release date for Pokemon Platinum outside of Japan. If you feel like you must be missing out on something good though, click 'Track It!' and we'll be sure to let you know when you'll be able to get your hands on it, as soon as western release is announced.
