A brand new skate-based game has been announced courtesy of indie developers Jonathan Lanis and Resa Liptura: Perfect Grind. This mobile skate simulator seeks to emulate the classic thrills of the old Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, and sees you hitting various stages realised in a gorgeous and vibrant cartoonish art style as you flip, trick, and grind your points up!

Perfect Grind is, first and foremost, designed from the ground up with mobile devices in mind. This means that the control scheme, the visuals, the audio, and all of it will be catered towards pocket devices rather than consoles or PC, so it’ll run as perfectly as can be straight from release.

Gameplay-wise, this is one inspired by the PS1 and PS2 skating games of yore, meaning that all they’re focused on are tightly designed stages set within various environments of different types, and all they ask of you is that you perform the sickest strings of tricks and grinds and the like possible to up that score, which will then unlock further stages.

Much like those games, Perfect Grind also sports a pretty darn in-depth character customisation suite too, allowing you to create the skater of your dreams - whether that’s a cool-looking sporty athlete or a man in a banana suit, it’s all up to you. On top of this, you’ll also be able to design your own skateboard, so you can really make your skater your own expression.

It’s been a while since mobile devices have seen an excellent skate-related release, so it’s nice to see some devs take a crack at it. Judging by the trailer, it’s easy to see how this is a love letter to the Tony Hawk series, and that is the highest bar to reach for, so we’ll see how it looks when it launches on January 12th.

In the meantime, you can pre-order Perfect Grind at the iOS link below and download the beta for free at the Google Play link too!
