Updated at 16:36pm on August 5th: Papers, Please has made a speedy return to the App Store and is available for purchase once again.

We reached out to developer Lucas Pope to find out what had happened and he reassured us that everything was going to be okay.

"Thankfully it's nothing sinister. The Apple developer contracts were updated and awaiting my acceptance. Papers, Please was automatically removed from sale and set to "Pending Contract".

"I'm traveling out of the country so it took me a bit longer to notice the problem and sort everything out. The app should be available for sale again now."

And he's right - it is [download].

Updated at 12:01pm on August 5th: Papers, Please creator Lucas Pope revealed on Twitter to one enquirer why the game is not currently on the App Store.

"Seems I need to sort out some updated dev member contract thing. Should be back soon," Pope said

We'll keep an eye out for its return.

It seems that the superb document thriller Papers, Please has gone missing from the App Store.

We're not sure exactly when this happened but we know it was recently. Nor do we know why it has disappeared.

We have reached out to the game's creator Lucas Pope to find out why. But right now, don't uninstall the game from your iPhone or iPad as you seemingly won't be able to re-download it.

Hopefully the game hasn't gone missing forever. That'd be a big shame, especially as we gave it a Gold Award in our review.

We called it a "thoughtful, fresh, and surprisingly fun game of observation and resource management," adding that "Papers, Please is one of the most distinctive games on any platform."

As soon as we hear anything from Pope we'll update the article to let you know what's going on.
