Liquid City has just announced the launch of Overbeast, a new massively multiplayer augmented reality game that brings majestic alien beasts from the Overworld to our planet. It has been developed in partnership with Verizon and features a thrilling and immersive experience as players will witness an alternate dimension overlaid on top of the real world.

In Overbeast, players will find these massive beasts roaming around the Earth. It all began with tiny embryos being discovered across all 50 states in the US, followed by them hatching a day later. That’s where the players come in. Through a collaborative effort with neighbouring players, everyone can plant trees and grow a forest to provide for their local Overbeast.

While the game is about these fascinating monsters, it puts a lot of emphasis on nurturing the environment and building a community. It launched right in time for Earth Day celebrations. The more people build their forest, the bigger and stronger their Overbeast will get.

But what’s the point of that? Well, that’s where the action comes in. All these creatures will be battling against each other over the next month, with a fight taking place every 24 hours. This league runs until May, with the first-ever Ultimate Overbeast being crowned at the end. Witnessing this in AR will be a completely captivating experience.

Speaking about their vision, Keiichi Matsuda, director of Overbeast, said: “We are always thinking about the possibilities afforded by new technologies, and how they can change the way we do things. We believe that AR and 5G give us new storytelling abilities, immersing you in a new dimension where spectacular Overbeasts can be seen battling or peacefully grazing on your skyline. At its core, Overbeast is a game about working together to care for the places where we live. We believe the game is unique in featuring huge-scale collaborative gameplay, and we are excited to see players join together to care for the forest and train their state’s Overbeast.”

Overbeast is currently available in the US on the App Store and Google Play.
