OPUS: Prism Peak, the latest entry into the anime narrative adventure series, is finally revealed with a short trailer

Developer SIGONO’s OPUS series has revealed the latest entry into the narrative adventure franchise, this one named OPUS: Prism Peak. The newest in a trilogy of anime-style story games, Prism Peak, takes players on a journey that will surely tug at the heartstrings with themes of confronting past regrets and nostalgic musings on the past.

The OPUS series has seen three previous entries, The Day We Found Earth, Rocket of Whispers, and Echo of Starsong. Of the lot, Echo of Starsong was the one that saw the most critical success given it launched on PC first. Despite this, The Day We Found Earth and Rocket of Whispers were mobile games upon launch, though we never did get to see Echo of Starsong on pocket devices, so it's tough to say for sure if Prism Peak will launch on phones.

Still, the developer has been quoted here and there with some light teasers that seem to imply it might just come back home to us mobile gamers, but there's no solid confirmation yet.

All three of these games usually have a sci-fi setting and focus on deeper themes within the story, existential in nature. For example, The Day We Found Earth was set in a time when humans had left Earth behind, but now had to return to it to retrieve a base genetic sample in an effort to save the species from DNA decline. As you can imagine, this led to some very intense story beats full of emotional scenes and tear-jerking moments.

Now, with Prism Peak, we have a new story that focuses on a more grounded basis. Details are thin, but what we do know about the plot is that it’s described by the developers as a cross between a Makoto Shinkai film and the hit indie narrative adventure game What Remains of Edith Finch. Given how focused Edith Finch was on confronting a traumatizing past from the perspective of our protagonist, it’s safe to say this is likely a similar sort of story.

Combine the elements of Edith Finch with the heartstrings destroyer that is Shinkai and you’ve got a pretty good mix that sounds like it’s likely to break some hearts.

For now, we’ll just have to wait for more details as they’re revealed. There are no pre-orders or pre-registration open, but you can wishlist the game on Steam right now if that’s your bag. In the meantime, let's all cross our fingers that Prism Peak will see a mobile port so we can get back to the series that began in our pockets!
