While there’s a decent list of characters to choose from on either end, the most recently released one that has attracted a lot of attention is Asher. Asher is a super buff ginormous lady who rocks two floating shields on either side of her. These shields are vital to her kit and are the centre of all of her abilities. If you’ve been wanting to try Asher out yourself but weren’t sure where to start, we’ve got you covered with this guide!

Asher’s Best Role

To be honest, this one’s a toughie, as Asher can be played pretty well as either goalie OR forward. Personally, I’d recommend focusing on her forward game for reasons we’ll get into soon, but if you’re a goalie main and want to figure out how to make it work, we’ll discuss that too! Let’s discuss the differences in her playstyle between the two.

As a goalie Asher, you’ll be focusing on using a lot of her ability’s pushback potential to keep the Core out of your goal. Asher is what I like to call a stationary goalie, which means you will almost never leave your goalie box to support your Forwards as some characters do. Instead, your singular targeted focus will be pushing that Core as far out of your box as possible.

As a Forward, I think Asher works best as a goalie bully. This means that you’ll spend most of the game directly in the enemy goalie’s face, using your abilities to harass them until you can build up your Ultimate and use it to set up a challenging wall that will bounce the Core into the enemy goal and really test how good their goalie is at Strike duelling.

So really, at the end of the day, it’s all a matter of preference between which of those sounds more fun to you.

Asher’s abilities

Asher’s abilities focus on the use of her shields, and range from a short-range dash that stops enemies in their tracks and deals a MEDIUM hit. This means that it has a decent amount of knockback to a fully-fledged shield wall with her ultimate ability and a beam of light that can deal a HEAVY hit or a MEDIUM depending on where in the beam the enemy is hit.

That dash, or Breakthrough as it’s titled, is a pretty useful tool, especially since it can stop whatever it hits in its tracks. This is especially useful in the case of hitting the Core once it picks up a ton of momentum and is moving super fast. Her primary ability, Arc Beam, has its uses, but is mostly good for a medium-range harass tool that can be used to either kick the Core in a direction or deal lots of stagger damage to potentially numerous targets at once. And finally, we come to her ultimate - Pathsplitter.

Pathsplitter deserves its own paragraph, as while it can be used as a decent way to harass opponents, I think it has one very specific use that is incredibly strong. If you’ve been in the goalie’s face all game, as I think you should be, you can use Pathsplitter to cover the entire middle, bottom, or top section of their box at once. This wall deals knockback and some stagger damage, but the real killer here is the fact that it lasts for so long and has a set amount of hits it can take before it disappears.

So, if you put it right in front of the enemy goal at an angle where their saving Strikes have no choice but to hit it, it will bounce right back numerous times over, making it a test of their attrition. This has scored me tons of goals, and I truly think it’s her best strategy. Make use of Pathsplitter to either set up a saving wall in your own goal as the goalie, or an impenetrable test of will against the enemy’s goal.

Asher Training builds

This will change depending on if you’re playing Asher goalie or Asher as a Forward.

As a goalie, you’ll want to rock Built Different, which will increase your size and hit strength with all abilities, along with Tempo Swing, which will make your abilities hit even harder as well as heal you. And finally, to top it off, you’ll want to use Perfect Form, which will make every hit you hit on either the Core or enemy Strikers reduce your cooldowns by a bit, allowing you to utilise your ult way more often.

As a Forward, you’ll still want to use Built Different and Tempo Swing, but this time you’ll also want to use Stacks on Stacks, which will make hits on both enemies and the Core give you a stacking bonus of 0.15% Haste - a movement speed buff - with every hit, up to hundred stacks of that percentage. At max stacks, you’ll also gain 6 Power per 100 speed. So, your Speed stat will be huge with the percentile increases, and your Power will be buffed to the teeth too.

This makes up for my personal biggest issue with Asher Forward, which is that she’s often too slow to keep up with the faster Strikers. With this build, you’ll be able to keep up with the Core while also hitting super hard and taking plenty of Stagger damage from harasser Strikers like X or Juliette.

With these two separate playstyles, you’ll be able to efficiently score goals or stop them in their tracks easily. The two most important notes to take away from these tips are, as goalie, to make sure you use the heck out of your ultimate to block off an entry path to your box and keep the Core coming from one direction. As a Forward, on the other hand, be sure you also use your ult every time it’s up to keep the core between you and the goalie. This is to test their speed and their ability to keep up with both you and your shield wall throwing the Core back at them with only a split-second delay.

Utilise your skills as told here and you’ll reach Omega rank in no time!
