Octopath Traveller: Champions of the Continent announces North America release window

After announcing that North America and Europe would see Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent earlier this month, Square Enix has announced today that the prequel to the critically acclaimed JRPG Octopath Traveler will see its release in those territories this summer alongside opening up closed beta applications.

In case you haven’t stayed up-to-date on it, Octopath Traveler: Champions of The Continent is set up to present a story set before its JRPG sister title, offering insight into parts of the world and story that the main game opened up loose ends towards. Champions of The Continent will even include characters directly from the main game, but will also feature original characters that have not been seen before alongside new music, an entirely new campaign, and more.

Mechanically speaking, Champions of The Continent is similar to the main game, using a JRPG style turn-based system where you will upgrade your characters over time as they level up, and equip them with specific gear to take them down a build path of your choosing alongside a vast selection of “jobs”, or classes.

There will not be a multiplayer portion in Champions of The Continent, despite it being free-to-play, as Square Enix wants this one to be a full-on JRPG single-player experience, much like its sister title. If you’re interested, the game’s closed beta can be applied for on Google Play, but only on Android. As of right now, the title has only been released in Japan and announced for North America and Europe, so here’s hoping we see a worldwide release if the game does well in those areas.

Until then, if you want to get ahead of the game and play the Japanese release, you can check out the Japanese App Store release and Google Play release.
