Each week, we ask members of our App Army for their early impressions of the latest releases on mobile.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch swam onto the App Store today, but our troops have been dipping their toes in the water over the last week.

Does it sink or swim?

What a silly, great game! I just finished the tutorial and got married - this game is so crazy.

I thought Octodad would struggle like I Am Bread because of its delicate physics engine, but it is actually well balanced.

So, I look forward to continuing with this silly game.

Initially the controls are a little annoying for this game. It reminds me of I Am Bread!

Once you get used to them they are ok, but I wouldn't class this as a casual game as you need to pay a lot of attention to make sure you are doing the right thing.

I have enjoyed my time with it so far, though.

I think it is quite a casual friendly game because you can just have fun breaking everything and doing anything you want just to have a laugh and have fun!

Octodad is a fun and original adventure that endorses craziness.

It's got a simple but wholesome story and the music and sound is really great. The tasks are also simple but the fact that you are a useless octopus makes everything an epic odyssey.

Stumbling around the levels is funny but the action can sometimes be frustrating and monotonous because of the movement and controls. They do succeed in making you feel awkward but at the same time it's sometimes sacrifices fun.

The game has a lot of charm, especially because there's actually a beautiful love story and a fun villain. Like I said, the story is simple but wholesome.

Overall this is absolutely fun and hilarious. Awesome game and you'll understand it more when you buy it.

The more I play, the easier the controls seem to get. I guess that's true with any game, but especially with this one.

However, I've been playing for a bit now and the gameplay hasn't evolved much. I'm still completing a random string of chores around the house and everything feels a bit samey.

I'm hoping things get a bit more interesting but it is a good port.

This game has a lot of humour and from the very start is goofy. I love the gameplay, it feels fidgety yet at the same time much easier than games like I Am Bread and Surgeon Simulator.

Some people may find the jokes a bit on the cheesy side, but they also work to the game's advantage.

Just the fact that you're an octopus posing as a human, sprawling clumsily as you move about the levels, wrecking furniture and scattering objects around, is sure to make you chuckle.

The game is growing on me as it's throwing a few more challenges at me, like having to avoid marine biologists, or having to squeeze my way through a freezer to get some frozen pizzas.

The objectives require a real gentle use of the controls, too.

Graphically the game is nice and I haven't noticed any lag whatsoever, but I am on an iPhone 6.

Well, after several parties, even if the game becomes somewhat repetitive, it succeeds in allowing you to live out a completely goofy life as an octopus and that's great.

It's fun and completely stupid and the controls aren't bad because you master them more with each new level.

It's not the game of the year, but it's very funny and that's all we can ask from Octodad!

Octodad is characterised by its unusual sense of humour.

The plot is nothing innovative (a protagonist and a villain who wants to destroy our character), but the idea of being an octopus married to a human is just so bizarre that it adds a whole lot to the story.

The gameplay is fun and due to the controls every ordinary task feels like a challenge (which I imagine it would be, if you were an octopus).

I had several rage quits (especially at the part when I had to squeeze myself through the freezer) and the controls reminded me of I Am Bread, but they were ported over nicely from PC original.

They are a pleasant surprise and I even feel like they are more fitting on touchscreen.

What I was really bothered by was the low resolution. For me it ruined the cartoony graphics a little. I also experienced some minor lag when there were a lot of items on the screen (might just be my iPad).

It's a not a complicated game, but if you want something silly and don't mind fiddly controls you should give Octodad a shot. If not for the gameplay, definitely for the funny story and the giggles.

It seems as though Octodad has made a successful transition to mobile devices! Have you played it for yourself? Do you agree with the troops? Let us know in the comments! If you'd like to join our App Army yourself, then have a gander at our sign-up page.
