Virtual pet lovers will soon be able to snuggle up to their animated best friends in glorious 3D after the game's announcement of Nintendogs + Cats at Nintendo's E3 2010 press conference.

Unveiled as one of the first party launch titles for the new 3D handheld, the follow up to one of the original DS's most popular launches offers a host of additional features which promise to draw players in like never before.

Beyond the addition of felines as well as canines in one package, there's natural better animated, even cuter puppies and kittens that will now be rendered in glorious stereoscopic 3D drool-ovision.

As well as the touch-screen and microphone inputs, the game also promises to employ the built-in camera and facial-recognition technology to enable the furry critters to react to your real-life movements, mimicking your head tilts and jumping up to lick you as you lean in.

Aside from that we're promised everything that made the original Nintendogs so popular with multiple breeds to choose from, accessories for puppies to wear and the ability to let your puppy train and compete in different challenges and activities.

Quite how the different species will interact or indeed how the cats behaviour will differ is yet to be confirmed, but we can only hope to see the dogs chasing the kittens and the latter wandering off screen for days before dropping half-dead mice on your virtual door-step.
