THQ Wireless sees mobile games revenues rise

But they're still some way behind the Big Three

THQ Wireless sees mobile games revenues rise
|

THQ has reported mobile game revenues of $5.24 million (£2.68 million) in the first quarter of 2008, a 21.7 per cent rise from the $4.3 million (£2.2 million) it made in the same period last year.

Wireless accounted for 2.8 per cent of THQ's overall revenues during the first three months of this year, which isn't much more than Game Boy Advance (2.3 per cent), and certainly not scaling the heights of Nintendo DS (a whopping 29.2 per cent).

Anyway, the Q1 revenues are likely to leave THQ Wireless some way behind the Big Three (EA Mobile, Gameloft and Glu), although of those only Gameloft has so far reported its sales for that period - €25.3 million (which, when converted to $39.6 million, or £20.2 million, is nearly eight times THQ Wireless's revenues).

According to MocoNews, THQ CEO Brian Farrell told analysts that the company is hoping to kickstart more growth with its upcoming Star Wars and Indiana Jones (pictured) mobile games, as well as more titles based on the company's console brands.
