The Secret of Monkey Island on ZuneHD?
Warning: this news is glue, not rubber
The trouble with specialising in handheld gaming is that you sometimes don’t get to write about exciting occurrences in the home console world. And, strictly speaking, I might be breaking the rules a little bit by bringing this up, but what the hell: The Secret of Monkey Island is coming to XBLA.
If you don’t already know about it, Monkey Island is a sublime point-and-click adventure game from the legendary LucasArts studio. It follows the travails of a hapless adolescent called Guybrush Threepwood as he ricochets between three Caribbean islands, trying to become a pirate.
It’s great. So great that I wrote my Masters dissertation on it. Really.
How dare I stray outside the boundaries of handheld gaming? Because Microsoft is bringing us the ZuneHD, and the ZuneHD is compatible with Xbox Live, and that means it might – just might – be possible to play The Secret of Monkey Island on one.
Of course, if you’re the sort of person who isn’t afraid to dabble in homebrew you may already have played it on DS, PSP, and iPhone, but it would be nice to get hold of it through a legitimate and straightforward channel.
