Sony to release limited edition Metal Gear Solid Walkman

As if there wasn’t already enough excitement around the launch of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Sony is releasing a limited edition Walkman.

The Metal Gear Solid series has never shied away from postmodernism, but this collectible is life imitating art, imitating life.

Various models of Sony’s own Walkman feature as some of the real world objects in the game, but now Snake’s headset has appeared in reality.

This could get confusing...

The Walkman W252 is a wire-free, water-resistant MP3 player (with an appropriate camouflage finish), which comes with six music tracks from the game’s soundtrack.

One of those new fangled wearable MP3 player-come-headphone, it’s ideal for counter-espionage agents on the go.

And to further bend space time, a code in the packaging can be entered into the game to unlock hidden characters (though the box probably won't be big enough to hide in).

The Walkman will be available from June 2010 to tie in with the release of Peace Walker in the same month. You can find more details, including the unit’s specifications, on Sony’s website.
