Sony on track to beat its own PSP sales forecast
2008 looking like a good year for the handheld
Poor Sony. This week it's been blighted with problems. First there were complaints that the PSP 3000's nice bright screen was showing up scanlines (like a beige carpet showing up stains) then there was the small issue of having to re-press a few million new copies of PS3 game LittleBigPlanet because it featured a soundtrack that might offend Muslims. And the new PSP firmware v5.0 turned out to be bugged too.
But - as any good self-help book will tell you - positivity is the way forward and there's plenty for Sony to be thankful for.
Well, at least one thing - which is that the company - according to Reuters - expects to beat its sales forecast for the PSP this financial year.
Previously, it had thought the console would sell 15 million units by the end of March 2009, now it thinks it will sell 16 million.
No doubt the combined efforts of the PSP 3000, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, Phantasy Star Portable and the new instant-access PlayStation Store soon to be populated with first-party Sony games for download are partly to thank for that.
Whatever the reason, it's at least some good news for Sony...
