Sony denies PSP is in the shadow of DS

SCEE UK boss David Reeves has said in an interview with MCV he's very pleased with what the PSP is offering and the games that are available for the handheld.

And despite how incredibly well the DS is doing, Reeves insists PSP isn't in the shadow of the Nintendo handheld and has been positioned to offer more than just games.

"I think you can (...) see the smile on our faces when we talk about what we're offering at this price and the games that are available," said Reeves. "We're very, very happy and comfortable with our PSP business.

"And I don't think we're necessarily in the shadow of DS – they have different types of games and we have a different positioning for PSP which is not just about gaming, but Go!Explore and everything else that comes with it.

"We're very, very happy with its progress and the more and more we go to publishers with it, the more they are coming on board," he concluded.

You might have noticed he's used "very, very happy" twice there in one interview. What is it they say about protesting too much?

Certainly a lot of gamers aren't smiling at the poor number of games available for PSP, even if Sony is. And mighty as the Go! range may be (and the jury's out on that one), they weren't as entertaining as decent games last time we looked.

Still, it's nice to know someone's happy.
