Something for the Wimbledon weekend

Anyone for tennis?

Something for the Wimbledon weekend
|
N-Gage + DS + Game Boy ...

The first week of Wimbledon has been an absolute classic for the traditionalists. We've had the torrential rain, Tim Henman getting knocked out in the early rounds, and tickets thinner on the ground than Rusedski's English relatives.

Combine this with the World Cup monopoly on TV and your best chance of getting a taste of tennis this summer could well be via a spot of pocket gaming.

Virtua Tennis World Tour is the obvious choice for PSP owners, serving up all the classic action from the home console version in the palm of your hand, whilst those of the DS persuasion will inevitably return to Top Spin 2. Top Spin 2 is also due to put in an appearance on GBA, but the true ace for Game Boy owners is surely the impish fun of Mario Power Tennis.

Meanwhile, for mobile gamers, former Wimbledon champess Maria Sharapova has a suitably sexy offering, combining collectable pictures of her goodself with a rather fine tennis simulation in the imaginatively titled Maria Sharapova Tennis. Venus Williams Tennis offers stern competition.

Of course, if you're a keen admirer of the women's game but aren't so bothered about all that larking about with rackets (aka 'The Kournikova Approach') Honey Hunt or KarmaSutra: Girl on Girl might be a better investment.

Then again, you could always blow the tennis off altogether and focus your gaming attention upon another fine British sporting tradition this weekend: our valiant World Cup exit, via our Something for the World Cup Weekend selection from last week.

All of the games above can be lobbed towards your portable gaming format of choice by simply clicking on the appropriate link above to be transferred to a retailer's sales page. Have a smashing time.
