Finally its console crown is stolen

Shock, horror: PSP drops from charts top spot as DS takes over in Japan
|
DS + PSP

It's been sitting atop the Japanese hardware chart for what feels like an eternity, but finally PSP has been knocked into second position by the mighty DS.

The latest hardware sales figures show that while PSP still managed to sell an impressive 58,501 units during the week, DS just outsold it with 60,434 units.

The good news is the two handhelds are still both doing really well and outselling the home consoles in their domestic markets by some considerable amount. PSP sales certainly haven't plummeted, either. But obviously Phantasy Star Portable wasn't quite enough to keep PSP on top. We'll have to see if DS remains in control of the charts now, or if PSP will manage to claw its way back into the lead.

Who would have thought hardware charts could be this exciting, eh?
