Does the start of August mean the summer is now over? For, despite basking in the hottest week of the year so far (in the UK), the entry of the eighth month means we're almost two thirds of the way through 2008. And you know what's coming next?

Of course, we won't mention it. The power of your own suggestion is enough.

Still, August does have a use when it comes to handheld releases. It's a place where you can finally squeeze out those games that have been previously slip-sliding throughout the year – note Race Driver: GRID finally, finally, due on DS next week.

There are also a motley collection of games that didn't fit anywhere else: although we say motley but maybe one or more of International Athletics, Puzzler or Space Chimps could prove to be a positive surprise. Certainly SBK 08 Superbike World Championship is a worthy addition to the bike sim gaming canon.
