Sony has issued a press release today announcing PSP has now sold over 10 million units in Japan.

The numbers account for both the PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 series and are for the total number of consoles sold between its launch in December 2004 in Japan and July 15th 2008.

Sony also boasts there are now over 580 titles available for the console in Japan alone and promises lots more are on the way.

The figures means that in Japan sales aren't so far behind its rival the DS - which had sold 15.84 million units from release up until March this year.
