PSP-4000 rumours resurface, herald triumphant return of UMD
What, is the PSPgo not flying off the shelves, then?
Edge reports that the show floor at this year's Tokyo Game Show was host to hushed whispers of a new PSP model on the 2010 horizon, which will reverse the design decisions of the apparently ill-fated PSPgo and put a UMD drive back into the handheld hardware hero.
The PSPgo hasn't exactly set the industry on fire: it's been brought to its knees with a hefty price tag, which hasn't been alleviated by the additional costs of going digital with game purchases.
Most recently, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars appeared to considerable critical acclaim, although this champion for the continued success of Sony's ageing hardware was tarred for loyalist technophiles when the game price of £29.99 was rubbished by retail boxed versions only weighing in at £22.99.
If the PSP-4000 rumours prove true, it'll be reassuring to know that the console will still be enjoying support from electronics giant Sony, but will undoubtedly cast the PSPgo into silicon purgatory once and for all.
