It's still big in Japan, but the PSP has been feeling some perturbing chest pains elsewhere. Thankfully, E3 has bolstered interest in the handheld console, with the promise of some damn interesting games on the horizon, and its profile isn't hurt any by the latest rumour: a PSP redesign is on the way.

The pictures surfaced on a Chinese PSP site, and came to us through game site Kotaku. If it's for real, the new casing suggests a Home button to add brand consolidation with the PS3, a thinner ring around the rear logo and, most interestingly, a built-in microphone.

The minor cosmetic changes, along with the much needed mic - add
credibility to the redesign, keeping the improved unit well within the bounds of possibility. Sony, however, has remained tight lipped about the whole thing - its silence throwing fuel on the fires of exciting rumour...
