Live from GDC: Some of the best mobile games that we hope to be able to play soon

If you thought some of the mobile games we've reviewed here have been wacky, you should see some of the stuff that gets released elsewhere in the world. At GDC Mobile, one of the hottest tickets is called 'World Tour of Mobile Games', where the best - and strangest - mobile games are shown off. Here's five of the best, fresh from the show, and we'll have five more tomorrow.
Planet For-You (Capcom) This accessible role-playing game puts you in the shoes of a cutesy girl who spends her time going on quests to fight monsters. Kids today, eh? It uses cartoony 3D graphics and an unsual viewpoint really well - you walk around a little globe finding things to fight, at which time it switches into a standard 2D mode.
It's out in Japan already.
Battle Cake (HeroCraft HiTech) Effectively the world's first multiplayer custard-pie fight mobile game, which is a niche we can only applaud. You and up to three friends basically lob cakes at each other, although the plot also manages to work in Voodoo, shamans, aliens and a wizard called Cakedalf.
Pet Trap (Mikoishi) Possibly a dangerous game to release in the UK, given the current hoo-ha over animal rights, this multiplayer puzzle game has you connecting wires to, er, electrocute your opponent's pet before they can fry yours. The game also has online high-score tables so you can compare your cat-singeing performances against your peers. Just don't tell the RSPCA...
Devil Darts (Touchlink Mobile) This'll take you back to your schooldays: it's a fairly standard-looking darts game except for one thing - you choose what picture goes on the dartboard. How? By taking a photo with your cameraphone, which is then incorporated into the game. It's a Daily Mail scare-story in the making...
Space Invaders X Pac-Man (Taito / Namco) Mash-ups - where one song is blended with another - are all the rage in the music world, but they've rarely been seen in games. Until now.
This is exactly what you'd expect, Space Invaders and Pac-Man together in one game. Heaven knows how their publishers Taito and Namco worked it out, but we want to play it as soon as possible!
