PlayStation Phone gets disappointing results in 3D benchmark

While the fabled PSP 2 might be a veritable pocket powerhouse, with some sources claiming the device is capable of matching early PS3 games, the little PlayStation Phone isn’t faring so well.
A video has surfaced showing the phone running a few benchmark tests: demos specifically designed to push smartphones to their graphical limit and then report back on how well they did.
The test, called Neocore, came back to report at an average frame-rate of 24.4 frames per second.
Which, compared to other Android devices, is pretty lame. The Nexus One can pull off about 26.7, and the new Nexus S gets upwards of 55.6. Ouch.
Of course, there’s still plenty of optimisation to do be done before the phone’s 2011 release. But the disappointing video puts a dampener on the idea of Sony’s gaming mobile being the number one phone for hardcore gamers.
