PlayStation Network ‘expanding to other hardware', says Sony

What other hardware?

PlayStation Network ‘expanding to other hardware', says Sony

Sony’s answer to Xbox Live hasn’t been the shining star it had hoped, mainly because there aren’t that many PS3 owners (zing!), but just as it’s been doing with the PSP lately, Sony finally appears to be getting behind its product.

“Next we will be expanding the PlayStation Network to hardware other than the PS3,” says Sony boss Howard Stringer, “because the number of PS3 units sold puts a limit on the scale of the network possible.”

An excellent idea, but we have to wonder what hardware he’s actually talking about. Naturally this hardware will need an internet connection, and since the PSP already has access to its own area of the PSN, he must be talking about something else.

It could, perhaps, be a connection through the PC, though clearly it’s not going to be a rival console. Gasp! Could it be the PSP 2 (or PSP Go!, if you prefer (and we don’t))? Possibly even the PSP phone, or some other Sony Ericsson mobile device?

According to Pocket Gamer’s inside source, we’ll know before too much longer, and certainly before the year is out. For now, it's good to know that Sony is showing interest in gaming again.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
