Nintendo announces the 3DS XL - out on July 28th in Europe, August 19th in US
Bigger is better?
Nintendo has announced that it will be introducing the 3DS XL on July 28th in Europe and August 19th in the US, to coincide with the launch of New Super Mario Brothers 2. The American price for the machine will be $199.99.
The 3DS XL is, as the name suggests, a bigger version of the standard 3DS, with a 4.88-inch top screen and 4.18-inch lower screen. Or, to put it another way, it comes with a 90 per cent bigger playing area in total.
On the flipside, the actual resolution of the displays won’t change.
Another extension on the original design comes in the form of the battery life, with Nintendo claiming that the 3DS XL can now last for around 3.5 - 6.5 hours (a small improvement over the original’s 3-5 hours).
What won’t be part of the new console design, however, is a second pad - in fact, the control layout remains the same as before.
The portable will be available in red, blue, and white/silver from July 28th in Europe.
