New PSP model is finally confirmed

Here we've been speculating on a forthcoming PSP-3000 when all along Sony has been working on the PSP-3001.
The new model PSP seems to have been confirmed - at least, if information Gizmodo has dug out from Sony testing documents is to be believed. However, it's not quite as exciting as it sounds - in fact all the changes to the PSP-3001 appear to be purely internal and are more likely to be aimed at lowering unit production costs and possibly introducing technology to deter hackers.
According to the information, there will not be any substantial cosmetic changes to the console. And we doubt the 'internal changes' referred to mean Sony is bunging in a hard-drive. Still, an imminent new model might be worth hanging on for if you're thinking of buying a PSP in the near future. As soon as we have word of what exactly it will incorporate, we'll have more news for you.
