Monkey Island makers speak about porting LucasArts games to DS
Confirms DS is ideal home for the classic point-and-click adventure

LucasArts has been speaking out on the possibility of reviving some of its classic point-and-click adventures, saying it's continuously looking at new platforms on which to put its library of games. A PR manager for the publisher also said they consider the DS stylus to be ideal for replicating the PC's mouse controls.
LucasArts has released a wealth of adventure titles over the years, most notably the Monkey Island series, the Sam & Max games, and Grim Fandango.
Speaking about its adventure game heritage, LucasArts PR manager Chris Norris said:
"The DS and Wii platforms seem to be a suitable environment for similar styled games, or ports, with the Wii's remote pointer and DS stylus being ideal methods of replicating a PC mouse.
We have looked at it. It is something we are continually looking at - new venues to put out our library of games on. We're not announcing anything about that because honestly I don't know anything about it. The decision is taken at a pay grade higher than ours. I would love to see new adventure games coming out. A lot of people will say they feel like the adventure game genre is dead. I don't think it is."However, the publisher has also expressed concerns that ports of its old graphic adventures wouldn't fit on a DS cart. Says assistant producer Jeffrey Gullett:
"The cart size of the DS makes it impossible to put out ports of any of our old graphic adventures. There's literally not enough room on those carts... It could still happen. We've got a lot of pride in our heritage and it's definitely something we're still leaving open."The teases...
So basically, don't go celebrating the return of Monkey Island just yet, but it could be around the corner. After all, if Myst and Broken Sword can do it, surely there's some way of cramming more of our favourite adventure games of yore onto a humble DS cart.
