LG's Nexus 4 smartphone goes on sale in UK - sells out within hours

At the tail end of last month, Google unveiled the Nexus 4, the search giant's fourth flagship Android blower (after the Nexus One, Nexus S, and Galaxy Nexus).
Developed and built in partnership with LG, Google's latest reference smartphone went on sale in the UK this morning.
This means, of course, that fans of the 'pure' Android experience can finally get to grips with the Nexus 4's 4.7-inch 1280x768 screen, and put that Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor to the test.
Or at least they could... if it hadn't already sold out.
You see, the handset - which also boasts 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box - appeared for sale on the Google Play Store at around 8am in the UK.
By 9am, however, stock had reportedly run dry. At the time of writing, the Google Play listing for both the 8GB and 16GB versions of the Nexus 4 informs customers that the device is "coming soon".
Hot cakesEarly interest in the Nexus 4 may have something to do with the unit's surprisingly modest price point: £239 for the 8GB model, and £279 for the 16GB (both unlocked).
It also boasts some attractive perks, such as wireless charging, the ability to take 360-degree panoramas, and the option to stream media to compatible HD TVs via Miracast.
If you're happy to get your handset on a contract, however, then you can pre-order the Nexus 4 via O2, Vodafone, and Three. Prices start at £31 for a 24-month contract (handset included).
