Got a spare $32 million? Go fund the Ubuntu Edge smartphone, then

Have you ever looked at your smartphone and thought to yourself that 'those chamfered edges just aren't rakish enough'?

Well, listen closely, then, for I might have just found the perfect device for you.

It's called the Ubuntu Edge, and it doesn't exist yet. In fact, it might never exist. That's unless Canonical manages to break all known crowdfunding records and raise a total of $32 million on Indiegogo.

Yup, you read that right. Canonical is after $32 million in order to create a limited run of its super-special super-smart smartphone. Which is also a PC.

Canonical is swift to point out that this isn't any old blower, mind. It's for the elite, the best of the best, the technorati. And it has a screen made out of sapphire. No, really.

Canonical's Ubuntu Edge will dual-boot Android and Ubuntu mobile. And when you plug it into a monitor, it will double up as an Ubuntu desktop-powered, err, desktop.

The Ubuntu Edge will have 4GB of RAM and 128GB of flash memory under its hood. It'll also have a really, really powerful processor, although Canonical doesn't know which one yet. That's because the firm doesn't want to be overtaken in the 'oomph' stakes before the phone even comes out.

Because the Ubuntu Edge will have dual LTE antennas, you'll be able to boast about your 4G speeds wherever you go. Its silicone-anode battery will fit neatly into the single-piece-of-metal shell, too.

Naturally enough, the Ubuntu Edge will house a camera. You'll be able to play games on it, too, thanks to that aforementioned Android OS.

If all that sounds like something you'd like to throw money at, you can head on over to the Ubuntu Edge Indiegogo page right now.
